I am astounded and disappointed by NZ First's embrace of Stuart Nash. Winston must be feeling he and NZ First are doing so well in the polls that people will accept this decision. He's out of touch on this one, it leaves a particularly bad taste in the mouth.

What makes Stuart Nash's selection particularly baffling is that NZ First has long had to battle negative public perceptions regarding undue influence from donors. Unfortunately, it's hard to imagine Nash's history will do anything other than reinforce those perceptions.

As Hipkins said: "I expect Ministers to uphold the highest ethical standards and his actions raise perceptions of influence which cannot stand."
